30 hour free childcare being capped

I would like to know if anyone has any information on whether child care providers can cap the daily amount of free childcare?

My daughters childcare provider has limited it to 7.5 hours meaning to use the full entitlement she would need to be in 4 days a week and I would need to pay for 10 hours a week wrap around care.

The government site is not clear on this and the local council have been useless. I am now looking to move my daughter to somewhere that does not cap, meaning I can put her in for the 3 days I actually need and this will save myself £2,000 year.

There is no minimum length of session .
so yes, your provider can limit the number of hours per day.

This allows them too spread the cost as the amount the Government pay is less than the costs incurred.
  • On the Pacey site FAQ under " When can the extended entitlement be provided?"

"Local authorities will also be required to ensure that providers and parents are aware that providers cannot restrict the times that funded places can be taken up in order to charge parents for additional hours."

Read the section as a whole, not just a selective edit. It is a reference to times eg 8am, not length of session.
