Hi there, I applied to Lloyds for a loan to replay my overdraft to avoid the new daily interest charges and for extra to help with wedding costs back in December 2017 but it was declined - I was told by the credit approval people to check my credit file as I had a default registered with a telecommunications provider. After looking at my file using Clearscore I saw that I had a default from Vodafone from April 2012 which didn't make sense since I hadn't had an account with them for nearly 12 years!
After several unsuccessful calls, I went into a branch to work out what has happened and was told by the manager that the default had been put on my account in error and it clearly stated that in the notes - it even said oops applied in error! I was told the default had been removed and sure enough on my Clearscore it was no longer there. So back to branch to reapply for the loan and was told I was only able to get internal borrowing to clear the overdraft not any additonal and if I went with that I would have a 12 month block on any future borrowing which I went with as wanted to stop the daily interest for my overdraft. I was also told the default is still there on my Callcredit file. Back to the Vodafone branch and I was told I need to write to HQ to have it removed and then write to all three agencies to ensure this is actually removed which I'm working on. But before I write to Vodafone - should I be requesting any compensation for the interest charges I've received as a result of my failed loan application and for the black mark against my name with my bank which is stopping me from getting a loan to pay towards my wedding. Would really appreciate some advice on how to clean up this matter and not miss any steps to ensure I'm compensated for all this hassle which wasn't any of my fault! TIA

You need to check all 3 of your credit files - Experian, Equifax and Callcredit.
No compo will be payable as you're not at a significant financial loss0

Will do thanks. If I can prove that loan was declined as result of default, do you think Vodafone will pay out for charges incurred?0
-
            No they won't.
 It's highly unlikely anyway0

What figure for compensation had you in mind ?
How can you be sure the loan would be accepted if the default wasnt there ?
Its not guaranteed you would be accepted.
Why a loan for a wedding ? You dont have to spend a fortune on it, can be done cheaply.
Theres the marriage board to discuss it if you like, they could be more accomodating.0

I would just like to say that yes, if I were you, I would definitely request some compensation from Vodafone for their error and for your trouble, distress and the interest you've had to pay. When you write to them, ask for some compensation as well. They do have to have your request to put things right in writing, so why not add your compensation request. When I have been let down by an organisation I always request compensation and I have to say that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But what do you have to lose? The people advising that you won't get it are not necessarily right. If you don't ask, you certainly won't get anything. And I'm sorry to see that, even though you have a 'newbie' notice on your posts, some people haven't been particularly kind. Good luck, and do ask for compo! Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts.
