Teeth whitening

Hi there
I would love to have whiter teeth.
When browsing eBay I have seen postings for self whitening kits especially those which are made in the U.S.A.
Has anyone used these and if so what brand?
Are the results good and are they known to be safe to use?
Many thanks

Have a look at the cleaning with bicarb thingy on the MoneySaving Old Style page in the meantime
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D <- my teeth since using it (I wish!)♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -
"Boots" sell kits for whitening your teeth at home. it's not a quick fix , though, and has to be used regularly for a couple of weeks. Any instant whitener will be a lot stronger (involving bleach and other chemicals) and I would check with a dentist first. They can cause damage to teeth and gums if used inappropriately.0

We got one of the Boots ones and while it didn't do much for me it was good for Mr Pooch. He's a smoker and had yucky nicotene brown stuff on the insides of his teeth :-/ The kit got rid of about 75% of the gunk
His dentist has just tried to flog him one of their tooth whitening treatments.... £150 for top teeth and £250 for top and bottomJust run, run and keep on running!0 -

I read on the internet about a mother who visited her daughter in the States. The daughter used Crest Whitestrips and also the Colgate gel - all very common over there. The mother said it didn't work as well as it did on her daughter - don't know if that's an age or liefstyle thing. <red wine, tea, etc>
I have a spare box if you <or anyone is interested> - send me a pm.

I use(d) straight bicarb regularly. I have an ill fitting crown and have noticed that the gum around it has been receding since I have been using bicarb regularly.
I mentioned this to a Spanish friend who reared back in horror! He said that his father had used bicarb religiously for years and it wasn't his teetch that went, it was his gums. He begged me to stop using it. I am thinking he may have a point, what he said was that your gums cannot tolerate the severeness of bicarb. I also think it may be something one tends to use obsessively. Maybe if one of our readers have medical/dental experience they may have an insight?
;D
