1 Cable from Satellite dish and No channels

Options
Hi, please can someone help. We have had a very old tv in our kitchen which hasn’t been used and was left by the previous owners. There is only one cable which comes in from outside. We have bought a new Samsung TV and plugged it all in and no channels have been found. We have another TV which we use a Humax box with and we connected the new TV up via this and it works. This must mean that the cable is what is the problem and I am not sure if this connects directly to the Satellite dish or the aerial. The new TV has Freeview HD built in. Does anyone know of a way or a device that will allow us to use this TV to watch the freeview channel?

Thank you

If the TV has Freeview, can't you just plug it in and check? My house came with a TV input in every room, some satellite, some traditional aerial.

The Satellite dish is on the exterior wall above the kitchen

Hi dunroving, that is similar to our house with TV points in most of the rooms. I have connected the TV up with the cable straight into the back of the TV and no channels have been found. I then connected it up in a different room where our main TV is via the humax box and this worked.

But what satellite receiver have you got ? Unless the TV has a DV-S tuner then it will not receive anything.

Yes but it needs to connect to a satellite receiver, either a separate one or built in to tv.

thank you Alter Ego, i am not sure. having a look at the specification of the TV, it doesn't show on there if the TV has the satellite receiver in it or not. All of the cables and dishes were existing to the house so i wouldn't know where that would be. Sorry, i am not particularly au fait with this sort of thing
