Invoices

Options
I had a company come do some work on my drains. They completed the work and sent an invoice. On the invoice there was work quoted they had not completed. Also the invoice i believe is not how it should be. There is just a complete block of writing to say what they done and a price next to it. There is no breakdown of what the cost was, the VAT cost and a total. There is no VAT number or company registration number. The invoice number is just a girls name. I thought this had to be a number and run in sequence with other invoices. It only has my address on the invoice not my name. All in all it just does not seem how an invoice should be. I am very angry about the work paid for they didn't do. I have e-mailed them regarding this as there was no telephone number on the invoice but they have not responded. This was Thursday. i today had Anglian Water out looking at my drains because the person who last completed work on them did not do it properly. Would HMRC be interested in their way of invoicing people.

Depends on the size of the firm and its turnover - if they are not registered there will be no VAT info.

Also ref can be anything - at work we used name, date

Did they complete or not - your post is contradictory - "They completed the work and sent an invoice. On the invoice there was work quoted they had not completed."

I'm a bit confused by your post.
Have they completed some work but not all you asked for?
Have you paid this invoice but you are now questioning what you have paid for?
No, HMRC would not be interested in their invoicing system.
I am a sole trader so I have no vat number and no company registration.
They may well copy and paste bits in and out of invoice document so might have left something in or added something form a different invoice.
From your point of view check the total matches the work done and if so all is well.
If they have detailed work they haven't done ask them to remove it.
If you would like a more detailed breakdown feel free to ask for it.
Thursday to Monday isn't a massive time to wait for a response by email, that's only been two working days.

Are there two companies involved here as well as Anglian Water ?
