Paypal Negative balance!

Im not sure how this happened,

I bought something off ebay, and i wasnt sure if i had the funds in my account(if i dont it will tell me that it has been refused payment) but it didnt okay.. payment made, I also tried to make another payment (again, wasnt sure how much left but was worth ago, i only mainly use that bank account for paypal) and it went through, Strange but fair enough.

Got my items. Seller happy me happy. Then about a week later i got an email saying payment 'Your bank declined electronic funds transfer'

So today i decide to log into paypal and it says 'balance -£16.95' (the total of both items i have bought. Now i have never had this before, At all. its not a visa or anything, Its a solo card that doesnt have an over draft.

Anyone shed any light on this error?

I've just been on paypal to change my card details and it said my issuer had declined, was unsure how this is so, although funds are low in account as I dont get paid until Tuesday, I wasn't trying to make a payment merely change the card details. Sorry I know this doesn't help with your problem but maybe there is a gremlin on paypal.Somebody with more knowledge than me will be along to help you soon.

Check your bank balance first, if Paypal have tried to take the money out and their was insufficient funds, you will end up with a direct debit refusal fee.
Also, if your Paypal account does not have a back up funding source ie credit card, you balance will remain a minus until you pay money in to it.
Also, in the future, you will be unable to make instant bank transfers.

How come?

and thanks for that. I have had no letters or anything about this, but i havnt had my statement yet because of the postage problems.

Paypal now think your a 'risk' for instant bank transfers and will stop the function.
The only way round it is to have a backup funding source like a debit card or credit card, this way you can choose which method of payment you would like to use.
Otherwise, your next buy will be an e-cheque, where basically Paypal request the money from your bank which takes about 5 days, it then takes another 5 days for the payment to reach the seller, so in all around 2 weeks before you receive the item.
Don't bother trying to phone them, it is a complete waste of time and is also costly.
Wait till your statement comes in (do you have online banking?) and check to see when they have tried to take the money, and was your account in good standing at that time.

Ouch... sounds to be as though you paid with an echeque, and it just bounced.

I did this too and now my card is banned and I cant add funds to my paypal account! Oh well it stops me spending too much!

i have had this too, a couple of times actually, as i rarely have much money in my bank account that i use for paypal... it is a switch card on a natwest account. yet it has never refused or cancelled my bank funsing, i can still use paypal without there being funds in there, and it doesnt go through as an e cheque!! maybe i am lucky?!?!
