It depends if you have the choice to sleep. Do you have a job?

I'm sorry but having M.E isn't about choices. If your body needs sleep you need to sleep there is no point in pushing yourself as you can end up far worse. M.E is about listening to your body. Yes I'm all for trying to pace and trying to get a routine up together but at the end of the day M.E is so unpredictable that even if you start a routine you may not be able to carry it on as M.E does mess things up like this on a regular basis. As soon as you start to get into the swing of things it affects something else it could be you appetitie or your balance anything.

Good luck if you do try to get some sort of rountine going :).

I'm sorry but having M.E isn't about choices.

Firstly I'm not sure if this person has M.E. And M.E isn't very well understood.

In this case there are clear choices, like choosing to get up at 5am. Choosing to have a certain routine regardless of how you feel during the day, choosing to sit on the internet for hours and not do any exercise which is a divergence from routine anyway. This isn't meant to in any way disregard the extent of your problems but, it's important to have a daily routine in life many of the problems often start when one leaves a routine. I have seen this very often and is synonymous with alot of student life too.

Also I understand being diagnosed with M.E offers support, even benefits to help you cope with the strains of the illness. However ask yourself what's really causing these problems? If you can't find a reason then sure, accept an M.E diagnosis, which is not meant to degrade M.E diagnoses but it's important to understand that these things are difficult to diagnose and hence you may not have it at all. Being diagnosed will have a psychological effect and I'm not sure that it will be wholey positive.

Also what are the specific causes of M.E? It's important to understand what's supposedly causing this illness.

My own gut feeling is M.E has something to do with disruption to sleeping patterns which causes prolonged sleep disruption and these are just the associated effects. Maybe I'm wrong but I may be about to spend alot of time with ME suffers which will be of great interest.

i did have three jobs, but one by one i became more unable to do them, so last sept i left and have gone back to university to complete my degree...

I left my jobs for a variety of reasons, the main one being my ex baggered off with someone else and i had no child care, also another job was very manual and i found i really was whacked after being there. another job iu chucked because i agreed to x amount of hours per week however my boss thought nothing of waiting till i turned up (50mile round trip) to say "oh its been cancelled you can go home" ... big fat raspberry to that ... as for sittting on internet all day, i have broad band so its on all the time, i have a quick look whilst dotting around doing other stuff...

Haven't enough time to read the thread at the moment so apoligies if these links have appeared before.

Pubmed Medline is quite a good place to look for the latest science on any medical topic. Though it does take a long time for current understandings of conditions to filter through to the NHS and even longer to the DWP medical services.

Loopy I wasn't suggesting you are sitting on the net allday only that was a contributary factor to me developing the condition. Which remains but to a much lower level than before.

Ted after being at the recieving end of medical science I have absolutely no faith in it to find a solution to chronic fatigue. There was pretty much no explanation given for most of the symptoms that I had, no explanation as to what was really causing them apart from an M.E diagnosis, no examination to link symptoms with cause. If there's something physically wrong with you, you should be properly physically examined but it seems there is no proper method of physical examination to find the what is "out of place" with your body.

    Hi Loopy,

Take heart, it does resolve itself eventually. I had ME for 3 years and was a bit fragile for another 2. Please do go and see an alternative health practitioner to have your diet analysed. Candidiasis and Leaky Gut Syndrome present with the same symptoms as ME. Even if a food exclusion regimen doesn't heal you, the act of Doing Something makes you feel less useless.

Generally, you will be taken off wheat, dairy, sugar and yeast and then these foods will be reintroduced slowly. I did it for 4 months and felt so much better.

Good luck to you and do try to pace yourself. Set a regular routine and walk a little every day, to keep your strength up.

    Best wishes.

ok folks, been to c the Dr.....

well i never.... nowthen let me think of a nice way of putting this.... apparently, my drs dont like to diagnose ME as theres no treatment and if someone is labelled with an illness they may lean on the fact they are ill and not get better! the only way someone with ME can get better is with determination and effort!!!!

there is no advantages to having ME diagnosed .......

    **&%%$*)****(($£"£^ then!

off to bed now for a little sleep.
