Paid fine but being contacted about not paying
Hi, I got a fine through from Manchester City Council in November for driving in a bus lane.
I had made that mistake (even though my satnav took me down the road!) however, I paid for it as it was £30 if paid within two weeks. I had an email receipt saying thank you for the payment.
In January, I received another letter, saying I owed for the fine and because I hadn't paid it, it was now £90! I called the council up straight away and they could't find my payment on the system, so asked me to email a copy of my bank statement. I did this, along with the email receipt I had when I paid and heard nothing more.
Today, I have had another email from them, saying that they can't cancel my charge and they want the last 4 digits of the bank card I paid with, or I can pay the now £90 fine within 14 days or the debt will be registered against me in country court.
Help!!!!!

I definitely can prove it. I have the email receipt and bank statement as well.
Thanks for the reply.0 -
IMHO I can't see anything wrong with giving the last 4 numbers, they are the ones that you get on a C/C receipt when you buy something. If they still get sniffy then that's another matterI'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Tell them to go nuts, if you really did pay it and can prove it, then you will win and get costs.
OP, just do as they request and give them the last 4 digits of your payment car, assuming that it's just to show that you've already paid and their intention was to take a further payment from you.0 -
Opp are you sure the second demand isn't for a second offence? Check details carefully.0
