Where to sell my RAF Officer’s sword?

I own an RAF officer’s sword, scabbard and belt, which I bought new from Wlikinson Sword in about 1988.

I would really appreciate some advice on the best way to go about selling it. A few searches on Google have not been all that helpful.

A lot of local auction houses hold militaria sales, that would be my first point of contact

Yep, another vote here for a good local auction rooms - they'll probably have an idea of how much it's likely to make as well.
Just make sure you're aware of the fees......

I'd echo above and suggest a local auction house.
Also try Googling it and see if anyone has sold one recently so you have a guide.

The advantage of an auction house is that there are a number of restrictions on selling it and they will cover that for you.

Do take note of RFWs post, the restrictions on selling blades really precludes a lot of places, and it may be that only a bricks and mortar auction, or a specialist shop are the only places.

It might be worth going to Cranwell to see if they sell second hand swords, or through one of the specialist outfitters/sword suppliers.

Is this a collector's item, or something a serving RAF officer would need as part of, say, a ceremonial dress uniform? If the latter, would it make sense to try and sell direct to someone currently serving in the RAF?

Ask advice from pprune.org.uk the professional pilots ' forum. There is military thread on there.

Thanks, everyone; your kind ideas and guidance is much appreciated.
  • I may be interested as I'm serving in the RAF. Give me a shout buddy.
