DWP Help with Mortgage Interest

You yourself were whining recently about having to have assessments to keep your claim going, it really is quite something that you get het up about anyone else getting help.
I genuinely cannot understand the bitterness and jealousy that some benefit claimants feel when other people also get some assistance.
Slightly off the subject matter of this thread, but what has me complaining of PIP re-assessments every two years at my age to do with the new mortgage scheme? I genuinely believed that PIP was geared up for those under 65 - those of working age. Those that were over 65, (I will be 70 in May) would be treated a little more leniently in line with DLA or AA. I am re-assessed for PIP every 24 months (get a 3 year award every time) I have just gone through my third face to face assessment since I turned 65 in May 2013. Each time all or most of the points I was previously awarded are cancelled only to be re-instated when I threaten to take it to a Tribunal. They then re-offer what I had previous.
Surely the system wasn't designed to do this for those of us who are over 65. It really has me believing that I will continue to be re-assessed every 24 months until the day I die.0 -

It has always been the case with DLA and now pip that once you get to 65 you stay on it until either you get better or are re-assessed and are taken off it, its a massive plus for anyone over 65 to continue to get PIP as AA has no mobility component. So for the last 5 years you will have been paid substantially more than someone on AA.
Do you see that as fair or unfair? Just asking.
Now back to SMI I suggest we revisit this in a few weeks time and see what the % are, as it seems the govt via serco are making an effort to give people the choice.0 -

It suggests you are concerned at getting caught hot yourself, frankly.0 -

I agree but in the 18 years that I was on DLA I was only asked once to prove my entitlement which resulted in another 'indefinite' award at the highest rates. Compare this to PIP in the past 5 years since I turned 65 I have had 3 assessments, each time resulting in all of the previous award being taken off me then re-instated following an appeal. To me it seems that the government want to get me off PIP as quickly as they can. In addition why is it that they want to reassess every 24 months? Is that the normal award length for someone that is clearly disabled and that nothing can be done about it - it is a life I now live
The financial aspect of DLA/PIP or even AA does not affect me. I fight these claims and non awards simply because of the failure of the DWP to get the first decision to be the right one. It is a point of principle, not a way of making more money. Getting the mobility award is only important to me as I believe I am entitled to it. Losing the £55 a week would not put me on the street. I own my own car which I change every 3 years. I do that as based on my experience of PIP if I had a Motability car it would have been repossessed 3 times in the past 5 years!
Oh I can see that. From what I am told they are at last trying to get people to sign up with only, what, 16 days to go? Talk about putting pressure on people who are not being given the time to look into the effects of signing up by talking it through with their solicitor/financial advisor. Typical government, this should have been ongoing over the past 12 months.
I agree let us wait until the 6th April to see if the figures change. In any event the 87% take up figure will not be reached by a mile.0 -
What a dishonest reply! I pulled you up on criticising the recipient, not the scheme. You alleged that they should not have been claiming in the first place, and I was pointing out your rank hypocrisy. To re-state it, you whine on and on about having to prove your entitlement, yet have the effrontery to question the entitlement of others.
It suggests you are concerned at getting caught hot yourself, frankly.
At one point I have never suggested that my benefit award history is in any way dishonest. I only suggested that given the take up figure an awful lot of people are finding a way round NOT having to claim under the new system. This leads me to think that maybe they really did not need to claim it under the old system.
I think I have a right to criticise the DWP in the way they are treating me with regards to PIP. I really doubt many others are having to prove their entitlement every 24 months presumably for the rest of their life.
At 70 in May, my disabilities are certainly not going to get any better. Yet the DWP seem to think that they will. In the past 5 years I have seen my PIP awards go from 0 to enhanced three times only because I appealed.0 -

The announcement was made in the Summer budget 2015.
It's been ongoing since. Hardly just a matter of days.0 -
Interesting subject!
How many people were receiving support for mortgage interest ?
What was the average level of support per year ?
Given that it will now be a loan, that will be repaid out of equity, when a property is sold at a later date, many people will be deciding whether to apply or not. For those that do apply, it won't be until April and i guess it would take time for their applications to be processed. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

I have received DLA 4 24 years this year and had never been reassessed. I think that is criminal despite the fact that I have a condition that cannot improve and can only get worse.
I had my Pip assessment on the 6th of March and I'm waiting to receive the decision but I'm quite happy to have to reapply and be reassessed regularly0 -
That is a failing of DLA and shouldn't be considered a criticism of pip.

For a start I have no objections to the move to PIP. What I am objecting to is that PIP is supposed to be a benefit for working age people. At nearly 70 I don't consider myself of working age.
And I have no objection in having checks along the way.
However I do draw the line of assessments that are reported to the DWP as being fairy tales. I have had 3 so far in the past 5 years, and each one was at best a best selling book of fiction. I have had to fight every decision. History and experience so far states that I go from enhanced for both elements to zero then back up again. I cannot understand why these people lie and I cannot understand why they think that I will improve in the short term by re-assessing me every 24 months.
Maybe you might change your opinion if you have these poor assessment reports, are refused an award and have to fight it to get it back every other year and presumably for the rest of your life. It will be interesting to see how you will accept that.0
