*HELP* Huge fee on address change for car

are you sure this is just an admin fee?
to me it sounds like you have moved to a riskier area in the insurance companies eyes hence the premium will be more.
I considered that, but the OP says Quinn Direct wanted to charge the same fee to change his address back to the old one. I feel he has misunderstood Quinn and should ring them again for clarification.0 -
I agree that the initial £137 amount would probably be due to an increase in risk area and possibly legitimate (probably £102 premium change and £35 fee). However, charging another £137 to change it back to the old address is pretty odd - if it had been -£137 I could understand it.
Also, if your policy booklet states £35 fee for mid term adjustments then that is the maximum fee (not premium itself - the premium change is in addition) that they are allowed to charge per change. Since the FSA came along for insurance, firms have to be transparent regarding fees and cannot just charge what they like.
Suggest you give Quinn a call back and ask for a breakdown in these figures ie. which parts relate to the premium itself changing and which are their fees.
Just a thought - run through a car quote on another providers website, first on your old address, then on your new one. You'll need to pro-rata the difference based on how long your cover was in force before the change of address but it might give you an idea as to how much it should cost roughly.
Hope this helps - sorry it's a bit long!0
