There is a plasterboard false wall in our grade 2 house. Would planning permission be required to take it down?

Assuming of course, the wall predates the listing or was put up with the appropriate consent - If the plasterboard was put up after listing and without consent, then the CO may insist on its removal.
The OP could cut a small exploratory hole in the plasterboard to get some idea of what is hidden behind. It could be that there is some period feature that screams to be uncovered, in which case, it would add weight to any application.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

But planning can be a pain and insist newer items remain in place rather than older items.0

A hole made has revealed a beautiful 17th century limestone wall. I must enquire with the council. Thanks all.Life is short be happy0
