Best supplier for bathroom suite?

Hey MSE forum.

We're in the (slow) process of renovating a dated house. Next on our list is the master bathroom, kitchen, and downstairs loo.

We're keen to source the bits ourselves rather than be at the mercy of whatever markup a tradesperson adds.

I've seen recommendations on here for DIY-kitchens and I like what I see. Can anyone recommend a similar online supplier for bathroom suites? Or even recommend a good store based supplier.

My only previous bathroom installation was a disaster 10 years ago when we bought our first place. Learned a lot of lessons, including how crap bathstore are and the importance of paying for quality fitters! So this time I want to make sure we get a decent suite and we'll find a decent local firm to fit it.

Thanks!

A local plumbers merchant. They genuinely know what lasts and should have access to all sorts of products at different price points.

I use a really tatty, tatty place where people come in and buy washers as I'm standing there looking in brochures.

We bought our last bathroom direct from victoriaplum.com

Arrived quickly, good price, and our plumber who fitted it comment on how strong (heavy) and good quality the shower bath was.

If the OP thinks Bathstore is bad, they'll cry if they install Victoria Plum. The taps and showers have no longevity at all.

Sounds like Doozer's using Orillo ;)

Similar thoughts to this. Have you checked out your local builders merchants? Many have excellent bathroom showrooms. Open an account and negotiations can tick along. You can purchase without having an account but the account opening means you may be taken more seriously.

If Jewson tick your boxes then they do a self build account - worth looking into this. I cannot vouch for prices - that is where your skills would come in.
  • Thanks for the replies everyone. I've never been to a builders merchant before so I hadn't thought about that. I definitely want something that'll last - this is where we intend to live forever all other things being equal. Presumably, from some of the posts, they're open to negotiation on price? Not something I'm used to but I'll give it a go.

I'll definitely try a local plumbers merchant then.

Any other online merchants people recommend or I should avoid?

The supplier is almost immaterial, it is the manufacturer you need to research.

This. There are plenty of places to buy online but you want to buy quality and that is where the advice on manufacturer will come in helpful.

We chose aquacabinets by Britton bathrooms. They do a sale a couple of times a year. Our local builders merchant stocked them but we ended up buying from bathroom village- great customer service.

I have a local plumbers merchant with show room attached. Cheaper to go to the trade counter as the showroom has a premium attached. Just something to look out for.
