what to do with my 6k

Joint account for HSBC might be possible if that's what you mean.
You're looking for a (savings account) home for £3K/£6K or whatever. Why can't you put it, or some of it, in a joint 5% FlexDirect or a 5% FlexDirect in partner's name...or both! Have you both got 5% regular savers with Nationwide? If not, why not?
Same question of TSB (for 3%), or others if you can find the requisite DDs?0 -
Interesting thread! I have just opened 3 accounts with nationwide flex direct(1 sole for my wife and I and 1 joint- 2.5k in each for the 5% int) 4 Tesco accounts(for the 3%) and a Halifax (£125 incentive)
I have a BTL mortgage (60% LTV) coming up for renewal in August. Will my account openings affect my credit score in a way it could affect the btl mortgage rates offered when needed?0 -
Sorry YorkshireBoy I was still on the subject of current accounts. Blame my loss of 1 hours sleep [not sure what next weeks excuse will be!]
No, we haven't got a joint flex direct, and good question as to why not. Answer - I'm not sure - but that makes sense. We could add a reg saver to that as well as the new flex plus account then couldn't we?
Yes we have both got sole TSBs with reg savers and a joint without.
I must have been thinking we couldn't have reg savers on sole and joint account as well.
I've got a lot to learn but am slowly getting there. I'll consider all options suggested today and hopefully get the ball rolling on whatever I decide next week

Potentially, yes. To an extent it depends upon how long ago you applied for those accounts. August is only four months away, and you would be well-advised to make no further applications for products requiring a credit search.0 -

I missed your reply and apologise. Thank you for your detailed info.
I posted another similar question on a new thread this morning as I am trying to get the best returns from a few accounts but confusing myself !
Anyway one thing in particular I picked up from your post was regarding the flex direct.
I realise the account will not close but I will not get 5% anymore. I am not going to switch to flex plus but was still thinking of opening that separately [3 iphones in family, breakdown cover and travel ins for a family worth the £13 pe rmonth I think plus I keep reg saver]
I could however then switch flex direct at 1% to a high interest current account [thinking first direct as no dds needed I believe]
and open a reg saver there as well.
Does this sound like an ok plan?
Glad to have helped.
YorkshireBoy's suggestions are good ones!0
