reg/blind 1992 didn't claim on mortgage life / ins

Hi!
took out mortgage in 1991 and moved to Northumberland was reg blind April 1992. Had (retinitus pigmentosa) when i took out mortgage but was still working.
When i stopped working i never claimed on my policy, because of state of mind at that time.- still not exactly sure what policy covered.
A. could anyone tell me if i could still trace the policy with the building society.
B. is there a time limit on claims.
