I can't believe how companies get away with ripping off design like that. Personally I wouldn't touch such rubbish (nor fakes) with a bargepole, I dread to think what the interface and software is like.

Actually very good, seeing as they are made in the same factories, and at least you can actually DO more with the chipod.
As for the interface, unlike the ipod it is very customisable. in juxtaposition to you isofa, I can't believe that they allow people to get ripped off like they do when they buy an ipod!

Thanks for the link but it only lead me to the home page. Can I have a name of the item, please.0 -
Generic 2Gb QM11 MP3/MP4 Player

... only that it's about half or a quarter of the size of the storage of a Nano, depending on the model you're looking at.
IMHO the biggest advantage of iPods is the number of accessories you can get like car stereo integration etc, plus the ease of use. I've got another, better sounding MP3 player (iRiver H120) but that was designed by geeks for geeks. I get along fine with it, my wife (non-geek) doesn't at all but she was able to use a nano pretty much straight away.0 -
We'll have to agree to differ Red Rose Exile. I'm not keen on fakes or rip-offs of any kind.
People don't have to buy an iPod for sure, there are other players, but it is an excellent player. Competition is a great thing, and there are some good rivals, but a lowly company ripping off the design, filling it with inferior electronics and then selling it, that's a rip-off.
There are hundreds of stories of people buying "iPods" on eBay for cheap prices, only to find they are these sub-standard rip-offs ('generic players'), and none are too happy with them. If you are, fair enough. I'm sure a Google will bring up some stories.
Apple invested a massive amount of R+D and using the award winning Jonathan Ive, an English designer - to come up with the design. I think they are fantastic devices - I've had plenty of music players, but since trying and now owning several iPods, nothing can be compared, change the headphones and the sound quality is superb too. Of course it costs a premium, for obvious reasons.
I have a car which has a dedicated iPod interface, and everything works perfectly. I find it very hard to believe that you can do "more" with the generic player. It's fantastic on holidays, syncs seemlessly with both my Mac and PC, can carry around photos on it, should I need to, syncs contacts, notes, all sorts, and even has some games. What more can the generic one exactly?!
I'd rather buy quality, it always pays in the end, I'd never advocate buying a sub-standard product, that'll need to be replaced, but that's just my opinion.
You pays your money, you takes your choice.0 -
Spot on Red Rose Exile. My better half brought an iPod, lasted 6 weeks and then went belly up. It took 2 months, lots of messing about to get it fixed and then came a bill. I brought an iPod lookalike online looks and feels like the real thing, easy to use and best of all half the price'ish. Whilst we all understand these companies are in business to make money surely there has to be a limit as to how much ?????
By the way why are you looking at an MP3 player. MP4's offer all that you'll get from an MP3 and much more. I think the extra couple of quid is a worth while investment. Also non Apple will give you the freedom to put whatever media you want on with going through the iTune's mill...0
