We had this last year, I signed up to estate agents etc but the best houses went fast. Our house came up Thursday morning on RM. Luckily I was off and saw it, applied for and secured a viewing ( all online via online agent). By the time we viewed Saturday they had viewings all weekend.
We loved the house and put an offer in that afternoon. They ended up with several offers over the weekend. We were lucky and they liked our FTB no chain position as others had bid higher. There was no time for second viewings at that point. Which was risky but I knew I loved the house. ( my gut was right we love our house 8months later)
What I'm saying is don't lose heart you will get that House eventually, ours was the right one for us. Be as proactive as you can with agents, right move etc etc. Book viewings quickly, you may have to make decisions quickly too in a fast moving market.

Glad you got there in the end, and thank you for the advice, think we need to do the same. :)

As above it's back to how it was done before rightmove, you have get into the offices of every agent on a regular basis, once a week if possible.

Revisit all the places that are sticking,
Look at above your budget and be prepared to make offers.

If there are specific house types in an area you like, then forget second viewings it's even consider offers before/on first viewing.

Chances are this is not the forever so part of the choice factors is resale, or can you add value make a sticker more saleable.

moving house costs a lot of money while saving more living at home can you skip a rung by going into a bigger/better place by upping the budget.

Just curious, whereabouts are you in NE? We’re in Whitley bay and things aren’t moving as quick round here. Took 7 months to sell and the house we’re buying took us three views to decide then had two further days thinking about it before offering

We got the house we are in now by being reserve buyers. House not on market when we viewed it, current sale fell through and we got called up asking if we wanted to view again. Did so and offered before it went back on market.

We got that call because as others have said we were registered with all local agents and spoke to them regularly, despite being 115 miles away.

Oh, and the house is TOTALLY different to our wishlist, we'd have scrolled past it if we relied only on RM. Challenge yourself and your preconceptions!
