K11 micra cutting out
Hi all, it’s my first time on the site, I was wondering if anyone could help? My girlfriend has inherited her grans old micra. It’s a 2001, k11, 1.4 sport. It’s got 20k on the clock so it’s not had a lot of use and has spent most of its life under a car port. It ran fine for a month or two but now cuts out after a few minutes running some times for a few seconds? It turns out it’s had an intermittent problem with this for years. So far all of the fuses, the cam and crank sensors have been replaced. This made no difference. Replacing the fuel cut out relay helped but hasn’t fixed the problem. Before the fuel cut out relay was replaced it got to the point were it wouldn’t start at all. I can hear the fuel cut off relay trip, a second or two later the engine cuts out. When I try to restart the engine after this happens sometimes the engine management light doesn’t come on with the other ignition lights. If the engine management light comes on with the other ignition lights the engine will restart. If it doesn’t I have to pull the 15A fuse in front of the fuel cut off relay. This prompts the engine management light to come back on with the ignition, the engine then runs for a few seconds on the fuel still present and cuts out. I then replace the fuse, the engine management light comes back on with the other ignition lights and the engine starts. Unfortunately a few minutes later it cuts out again and I’m back to where I started. All the wires and connections seem fine. Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks

Had very similar happen to misses micra.
Perect one minute non starter the next or dying power.
Having googled it was the common fault of the mass airflow sensor. You will see it if you open the bonnet and look for the silver square. Basically its dry joints. The cost of swapping the unit was about £280 inc labour however thinking I have nothing to lose I did what was suggested in one of the micra owners forums . Heres the vid but the guy goes slightly OTT and I dont remember having to remove mine. The you tube he resolders ALL his connection but again I think if you google theres ussually a set of 3 ( thats the three I did on mine ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sg3V5lCpGaQ
I just cut off the old sealant , reheated the 3 points with a solder iron til I could see them melt then just sealed back up with some normal sealant and replaced the cap. Half hours work I think, if that. No issues ever again on that front.

If you do this (simple) procedure following the vid above, mark the position of the black throttle sensor that has to be removed first, it has slots to adjust the voltage when the throttle is closed. Likely the person making the video reset it electrically, but didn't show how.
And don't try and lever with a stanley knife or scalpel bade either!I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Hi thanks for the quick response. I’ve seen the throttle body come up on a few different sites. From 2000 the throttle body fitted is different to the one you can solder. The mass air flow sensor can be removed and replaced for between £20 & £100. Do you think it’s this sensor rather than the throttle body as a whole?
Thanks again, your time is much appreciated0 -
I would jump over to the micra forums as they are very helpful
I suspect they can answer you best0
