Council tax/electoral role/out of the country

I'm registered as living at my nans where I used to rent a room. I've been out of the country since June 2017 and wont be returning for a while. My bank accounts and CC's are registered there.
My nan is living alone and I believe she should be claiming single person discount, but im unsure of the legalities of that while I'm "registered" as living there. I'd like to stay on the electoral role and am unsure when I will be returning and if I do it may only be for a week or two.
Where do I stand on this if my nan claims single person discount? does that automatically remove me from the electoral role? I dont need credit as it stands but may need a mortgage in the next 5 years.
TIA

The electoral roll and council tax are different issues.
The fact that you will return to the property to live means that it remains your 'sole or main residence' for council tax purposes and you are regarded as still being resident.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
To clarify, I have no intention of returning to the property to live or even stay as I have other options, but does my bank accounts being registered there prove that I do in terms of law?0

Crikey, just noticed I used role instead of roll, please forgive me, I've been living in a spanish speaking country long enough to affect my (basic) english

If it makes any difference, I have no property there and the room is empty, I had no intention of returning to stay so just have a few things in storage at relatives. Keeping my bank accounts registered there made sense but I can move them if need be.0

You could give her the difference between the full cost and the single person discount.0 -

In which case you are not regarded as being resident in that property for council tax purposes - if you have things registered to the address then the council may however question this at a later date to ensure that their records are correct.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. It could cause issues for her single person's discount etc.
However, if you are living and working /studying abroad - and have proof of the same then you can provide that should it be needed.
There was a case of HMRC accusing a single lady of being in a relationship with the local convenience store. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Which is why I said they may question it - local authority and national fraud initiative data matching may lead to a local authority asking for further information regarding residency.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
