Card stolen with pin

Tried googling but not coming up with an answer.
My friend used his card at an ATM, put his pin in, and the machine took his card.
He went off to work and then noticed £80 had been withdrawn from his account, can only assume the card machine had been fitted with some sort of scam device?
Is it possible to get his money back from this?

He has and had it cancelled now but the bank at the time basically said there was nothing they could do which I was sure wasn't the case but can't find anything to say otherwise!People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
How long did your friend wait between having his card 'retained' by the ATM and phoning his bank to report it's retention? Did they wait until they noticed the £80 withdrawal before phoning their bank?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
