Hi all,

My car insurance is due for renewal in just over 2 weeks.

I was involved in a minor collision a few weeks ago. It was very superficial damage to her car. with a bit of paint scraped off (She could easily just t-cut it out). She was parked on double yellow lines blocking access. Nobody was injured.I reported it to my insurance company just to be on the safe side. I think that it will be a 50/50 decision and nobody will be blamed.

My insurer is now saying that I have I have to advise my new insurer that I have a claim outstanding that is yet to be settled.

Anyone please advise as I don't want to admit any liability for the claim, when at worse case it will be a 50/50 decision, where nobody is at fault.

  • A 50/50 decision is classed as fault to most insurers.

"Fault" in the insurance world means loss. If you insurers incur 50% of the loss. it's a fault 50/50. Not Non-Fault 50/50

Also a pending claim is a different ball game, Any claim still outstanding must be recorded so as insurers will rate it on (Fault) as a worst case scenario, if mid-term the claim is settled to NON-Fault you may be able to get them to change it and refund you any difference in premium if it's a lower rating.

You hit a parked vehicle how was it their fault?

Worst case is its all your fault they were parked, you told us that. And they all suddenly decide they were injured.

Your best case is 50/50 ??

You don't need to worry about admitting liability

That's for your insurer to do, not you!

But as others have said, it's clearly your fault if you drive into collision with a stationary object of any description!!

Renewed my insurance with a new supplier. They know about the accident. Much cheaper than my renewal. Saved over £50 compared to my renewal quote. I save every year with car and house insurance. Good old MSE.

It will definitely be 100/0. Where do you get 50/50 from?

Make sure you claim some compo for your distress.

Does your new insurer think your NCD is not impacted by this claim??

Unless NCD is protected a claim usually means no ncd awarded for the year, and you lose 2 years from a maximum of 5.

50/50 means both drivers are 50% to blame each.
