Grandad Death - PPI Advice

Options
Hi all,

Sad situation but my grandad has recently passed away and we have began the arduous task of sorting his financial situation for my Grandmother.

After finding various statements it has become clear that he has being paying for PPI on various electrical appliances. These wasn’t opted for when purchasing (I actually purchased these on his behalf) so they must of canvassed for the product at a later date.

Items such as £8 monthly insurance for a £30 DVD player and various others. In total of about £30 per month.

Are we in a position to make a claim against these being unlawfully sold or shall we just suck it up? All have now been cancelled to avoid further payments.

All parties involved apart from Studio have been more than amiable. Studio wanted a death certificate to cancel a £3.20 ongoing charge that they wouldn’t let us cancel.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Regards - Stuart

You don't pay PPI on items, just loans.

They sound more like extended warranties. I'm not sure if claims for miss-selling of these are available in a similar way to PPI.

Maybe post on the insurance board and someone knowledgeable on there might know.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

As said they aren't PPI (why do you think they are?) they are almost certainly extended warranties which are notorious for being beyond terrible value. Cancelling them is all you can do.
  • Sorry, extended warranties are exactly what they are...

All cancelled now. Thanks for the advice
