‘Typical’ new car discount?
Options
First proper new car so opinions welcome please. Not looking for the deal of the century, but would be nice to hear that this is a ‘normal’ new car discount before we go ahead.
Toyota RAV4 Excel OTR about £33500. Negotiated £5k discount so down to £28,500, about 15% off.
Thoughts welcome, thank you.
(And as an aside, being new to these forums, I’m surprised not to see more posts like this - are people that confident in their negotiation skills, or is there some other resource than I’m not aware of for this kind of question?)

Take a look at the likes of drive the deal and carwow. That will give you an idea of current discounts.0

It depends on the car obviously but generally anything between 15% and 20% is pretty good so you've done OK so far. As above, check out the quotes from online brokers like DTD and Carwow, Broadspeed etc.
Is that price you got for cash or is there finance involved?0 -
Finance, and will take it given it is 0% interest, otherwise would just have gone for the full cash option. I was assured that the price would be the same no matter which, but can never be sure what to believe in a dealership!
Thanks for the replies.0 -
Sometimes discounts can be higher if there's finance involved, as the dealer gets a commission on selling the finance. (Not sure how that would work for 0% finance though).0

I'd say 15 to 20% is quite typical but it could be more or less depending on the model and other factors. Sounds like you're doing ok though.0

https://www.broadspeed.com have them at £28,028 but theres £199 fee on top of that.
I think you're probably pretty close in terms of best price you can get.0 -
If that's the car you want then shop around at whoever sells them and see what the best deal offered is.
There is no set discount on a car as it depends on how inflated the price is to start with along with demand.
I looked at a BMW Z4 costing roughly £33k in 2013. Before we had even sat down the sales guy took £5k off the price.
In 2005 when I bought a Nissan 350Z Roadster, list price was £26,350 and that's what you paid if you wanted one. If you did want to order, it was also a £2k deposit.
The only discount was a free set of Z mats worth £80 and that was for the lucky ones.0 -

Supply and demand.
The Z4 is a poor seller.0 -

That's the point I was making, thanks for clearing that up.0 -
Thanks everyone. I am getting a very similar price on broadspeed after allowing for cost of colour paint as well, and carwow is coming out over £1k more expensive than what I have got. So on that basis I think I am happy that we have got a fair-ish deal, thanks.0
