Cahoot/Santander loan

Hi,
I have recently made a claim with Santander that the ppi on my flexible loan was mis-sold. They initially told me they couldn't find my loan - which is nonsense as I am still paying it! I sent them a copy of my credit agreement and will wait to hear back. Anyway, what i am wondering is, do banks keep all paperwork from the beginning of a loan as it is still running or does it depend how long the loan is going for?
After reading up on ppi, I am aware that I have less chance of my claim being upheld as it was a form to fill in, not an actual advisor to speak to. I did have income protection so I didn't need it but I am useless with money and I never spoke to cahoot about my income protection, so does this mean I will be unsuccessful? Is the onus on me to speak up rather than them to ask me anout my circumstances? The form does say in bold letters that they 'strongly recommend' i take out ppi and it also never mentioned any interest on ppi so I am also saying in my claim that this was wrong too. Has anyone had any success claiming back missold ppi after applying for a loan (&ppi) online or via post?
