  • Can I join???

You'll see from my sig that we got such a long way to go but the debts we accumulated didn't happen overnight so clearing them will take some time too. Even so 2011 (our Debt free date seems an age away1).

I'm finding this month hard going as well. Christmas is budgeted for but I've been trying to use the 'free money' that we've accumulated since my LBM and not spending where necessary. All savings to be thrown as the CC in the NY. That said just spending money when you are used to not spending is difficult enough. At one point last week I was looking forward to Christmas being over, how sad is that. I think its probably because its hard to feel as in control as I've been for the last few months.

I saw a thread on using a cash flow spreadsheet last week. Has anyone found that its a useful tool in managing income/outcome?

    Wohoooooooo :T what an evening.

Just been going through making our plan for 2008, snowballing, signing up for mystery shopping to earn extra cash each month and how much to earn from clicks/loyalty points etc to save for Christmas 2008.

And suddenly I re-discovered the terms of my loan....a payment holiday each January - that's an extra £300 of the cards plus I have been accepted for a Mint card with a £7.5k balance so I can transfer the Egg and Natwest to 0% until Feb 2009. I finally feel like we are making head way I am so chuffed!:j:j:j:j
Natwest Card 27.06.10 (reduce every month) £267.63

hello all-- can i join and get a number and everything??? i've been running our own DMP for about 5yrs and about another 3 to go. was at£49 000 now at about £19000 but its getting slower because we have out 2 eldest at uni and parental debt doesn't sem to be taken into account as far as they are concerned when applying for financail help. if anyone knows anything about this I'd be really grateful cos we have another one going in18mths (they all seemed like such a good idea at the time!!:D )
wish i had known about this site when the going was really bad, but its still reasurring to know that you are all out there
    thanks

Wow Taxi congrats, that's brilliant news on clearing your Barclays card.
Churchrat, don't know anything about Uni fees, but we have a son who'll be attending next year. Are you saying that your credit is taken into account when a prospective student arrange for a student loan? As I understood that wasn't the case, please anyone let us know what is correct.

    Take care all,

hi mm2, when ours started at uni we weretold that the amount of our debt made no difference to what we were expected to contribute to the student. It went entirly on what was earnt, house mortgage/insurances etc and other children.. the fact that we could not afford to help support them didn't matter. this was about 3 years ago, so perhaps its changed and parental debt is now taken into account. I hope so, it will be much easier to survive each month. both my eldest children took courses at uni's near home, and so still live with us which has been a great help, and both work part time. I don't think we could have managed if they had gone away to study. between us we earnt too much for them to have top-up grants,-- we would probably have been better off with me not working, but then we could not have afforded the dmp. is anybody else in this postion?? manythanks
