CPM parking charge

Hi all,

We received a parking charge in the post from CPM, the van was parked in an industrial estate for a few minutes.

We posted the below letter to them, there was no option to send this online to them (from the sticky)

"Dear Sir/Madam,

Re PCN number:

I am the keeper of the vehicle which received this purported 'parking charge'. There will be no admissions as to who was driving and no assumptions can be drawn. I am not liable and I believe that your signs fail the test of 'large lettering' and prominence, as established in ParkingEye Ltd v Beavis. Your unremarkable and obscure signs are in small print and the onerous terms are not readable" (and the rest of the template)


We have received a letter back saying they have considered our appeal and it is unsuccessful and we need to pay the full fee.

Is there any further advice you can offer please?

You are in ignore mode unless you get real court papers, or you can get the landowner to cancel this.

You can safely ignore debt collectors. Well done for getting this far without asking for help. It makes thinks a lot easier for the regulars when posters actually read the NEWBIES and send the template first.

You read the NEWBIES.
You sent the template
You didn't reveal the driver.
You only asked a question when you needed clarification after you had done all that and got a reply from the scammers.

I expect the regulars would wish more posters did that, instead of "I parked ... Help!!!! Urgent !!! What do I do? ... Should I pay? ... I can't find the NEWBIES ..."


I would add that you should also complain to your MP.

These are the exact words used, so you should quote them to your MP in a complaint and ask him/her to contact Sir Greg Knight MP if he wants further information about this scam.

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of contracts for alleged parking offences, aided and abetted by a handful of low-rent solicitors..

Parking Eye, CPM, Smart, and another company have already been named and shamed, as has Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (these two law firms take hundreds of these cases to court each year). They nearly always lose) and have been reported to the regulatory authority by an M.P.

Hospital car parks and residential complex tickets have been especially mentioned.

The problem has become so rampant that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers. Watch the video of the Second Reading in the HofC recently.

and complain in the most robust terms to your MP. With a fair wind most of these companies may well be put out of business by Christmas.
