AAM Updates Notifier stopped working

Anybody come across this one? It is the Adobe Application Manager update notifier. It's a dialogue box that sporadically pops up with the usual options: -
Check for a solution and close the programme
Close the programme
I assume it is to do with Photoshop (which I use a lot) but it pops up whether I am running CS6 or not, often just after switch on. Whichever option I choose, it doesn't find a solution and just disappears. Searching using Auntie Google and the Adobe community does not find any definitive solutions. There are suggestions as to what to do but nobody has posted saying "Yes, I had that, this is what I did and it's gone"
Would appreciate any solutions (that work)

its usually trying to update acrobat on my pc but can be any adobe software0

I believe you can uninstall it without affecting any other Adobe programme.
Or .. run MSCONFIG and disable it from starting with Windows.0 -
I have unticked the Adobe update app in start up, I also updated Creative Cloud manually. I don't use CC but it came with CS6 and I was forced to install it or at least there was no way not to install it. Not had the annoying dialogue box yet today ............ but then it was years before it started happening the first time.0
