How to stop cat biting wound?

Our cat has a gash on his tail and keeps licking it, it's really sore. What can we put on it to stop him doing this and does anyone know if the vets will have any of those funnel type things that go over their heads to stop them biting or is the pet shop a quicker/cheaper option?
thanks.
thanks.

I'd ring the vets to see if they will give one, but knowing vets they'll probably want to see your cat first. Have you any pet ointment? Mine hate the smell and don't try to wash where applied.2008 wins. DVD player together with Now quiz/Now 2008 DVDs,£25.00 Real People, pair of tickets for London Eye.0

Probably Best That It Can Clean It At This Stage Until You Decide To Take It To The Vet.0

I'd go see the vet first -if it is a sore gash and he is cleaning it, you don't want to risk infection. The vets would probably put an elizabethan collar on him whilst it heals.0

our cat had the same trouble with a cut on her leg when she got run over, as a cats tongue is rough ,her licking it will stop it healing so i would advise you just ring the vets im sure they will just get you to collect a collar from them...spanky xx

I was looking for something for my cat because for some strange reason she walks with her claws out all the time and although its not damaging any carpets (yet), the noise she makes is soooooo annoying!!! But I stumbled across some items that stop pets licking wounds and it is a safe ointment but apparently the taste is so vile to cats they won't lick it. I believe you can buy something like this in any PetSmart or Pet shop but maybe try a bandage first and see if the cat can keep it on!0
