Electric meter stopped working.. HELP

HI Everyone,

I need help yesterday e.on web page was down for awhile so Im writing this now, My electric meter stopped working at first we thought it was the fuse box but the electric meter metal disc stopped moving. We recently had a leak after the bad weather and trying to get the Insurance company to sort it out which is taking along time. We want to get the electric up and running soon as but am also afraid that they might just come to install a digital one which we are not keen on and cant find on e.ons web page a drop down menu for fixing electric meter??????

PLEASE HELP

MANY THANKS!!!!!!

Do you actually have power to the property?

If so, i assume this means the meter is not recording any use at all, correct? I assume you have used a high draw item i.e a kettle and then checked the meter while it is running.

If the meter is not working, you are obliged to inform your supplier and a replacement will be arranged.

Why are you against a digital meter? A digital meter does not have to mean a smart meter!

Is there anything additional on your property that needs to be considered? Do you have solar panels for example?

Old analogue electric meters made by Sangamo Weston stop quite often but the rotating ring will continue working. They show a blank digit on the last of the five main digits when this happens.
Another way for the power to remain on but the rotating ring will stop is that someone has gone under the lower cover and fiddled it. Bypassing the meter .
I m baffled why you do not want a digital meter. They will be replacing that analogue meter anyway pretty soon.Smart or dumb you will have to have a digital meter

Smart or dumb you will have to have a digital meter

More specifically you will 99% likely get a smart meter. If it has the communication hub is up to you.

Hi mansnothot and welcome to the forum,

I'm sorry you had issues on the website, I've had a check and all is working ok now.

You're going to need to call us, so we can arrange the correct appointment for you. If you ring and explain we'll be able to pop you through to the right people.

We'll also need to establish what has actually gone wrong with this meter.

At the moment you don't have to have a smart meter if you don't want one.

    Thank you

Can I repeat Cashstrapped opening question - "Do you actually have power to the property?"

If not then your leak might have resulted in the supply companies main supply fuse blowing

  • Thanks for all your replies, We don't have power at the house yet. We are still sorting out our issues with the left over leak. My elderly family are staying at relatives! Sorry for we mean Smart meters as we are not tech savvy, the next door neighbor helped us with this post as it was his idea to get info/options. Thank you Robin9 for your reply that could be what is as the metal disk seems to have stopped! Thanks Helena for the update regarding your web page I will contact e.on and book a appointment to have the meter checked out as we need power soon to rebuild parts where the leak has happened.

Also THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP!!!!! Its good to know we can get advice/options from strangers in time of need!
