Some advice please. We bought a car 2.5 years ago from a local garage, We've now decided to sell it through webuyanycar and so made an appointment. On checking, they called and told us that our car was flagged as stolen on their systems.
After doing a bit of digging, we found out that a woman's house had been burgled and in the burglary they'd been able to find the car keys and take the car.
Anyway, we've had to pay for an HPI. What I don't understand is why, when arranging our car insurance, MOT, and tax disc nothing showed up.
So, I'm fuming with the garage, but what comeback do I have with them?
Thanks in advance.

I'd suspect an error.
The car could well have been returned to its owner (or to the insurance company) and sUbsequently sold legitimately, but whatever database webuyanycar use was informed of the theft but not the recovery.0 -
Surely the garage does it's own checks though?0

Yes, and found nothing wrong.0 -
Garage might not do any checks, just like you didn't do anyChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Quick chat with the garage first, perhaps email/fax them the HPI.
Then ask them politely what they propose to do about this.
If they are unhelpful, suggest that your next step is to PC Plod.0 -
whats the last owner on the v5 say?0

May have been stolen, insured paid out, car then recovered and auctioned off by them.0

Did you do your own you? What does it say?
How much did you pay for the car?0 -
Did you do a HPI yourself before you handed over the money?0

Phone your local police, a possible reason is no pnc found report.0
