climbers for arch

Just put up a nice new wooden arch (standard sort of size over a path, quite sunny posiiton). Struggling to decide on climbers for it, I’d like something evergreen ideally and am thinking a honeysuckle copper beauty. Are there any other evergreen honeysuckles I should be considering?
and could I combine this with a clematis on the other side or would it smother the arch by itself?
Thanks!

  • Depends on the kind of clematis - montana's may smother the honeysuckle as they grow really fast.

If its wood remember in 10 years time it may well have rotten legs and fall over. Bit late for extra treatment now, but remeber when planting to allow room to do repairs/treat the bottoms of legs.

Jasmin covers our arch; it's everygreen and quite lovely; I believe it's jasminum stephanense.

I was sure, but following your statement and checking the RHS site, I suspect it is not!

Trachelospermum jasminoides is evergreen and it flowers for about 2 months in summer.

Thanks, yep I have one of these elsewhere. Nice plant although seems very slow growing

just found jasminium beesianum which could be a contender as well although unsure if fully hardy

Jasmine beesianum can soon get out of hand, I wish I hadn’t planted mine!

We've got two wooden arches in our garden- put up with met posts.

One has a Montana clematis which has taken over lol but looks lovely when in bloom. We've also got climbing roses and honesuckle. The roses are ok with the one with the clematis ie not too big. On the other one they've taken over. Not sure why hubby hasn't pruned them yet.

Don't think we've got anything evergreen on them.

interesting, I thought I'd read that its fairly small

Its a pretty decent size arch so don't mind it getting quite big (within reason)
