Press F4 or 4 on the menu for safe mode then, well you could if the idiots at MS actually thought of loading the touchscreen keyboard drivers. How do you press F4 or 4 with no keyboard?
You could have always plugged a keyboard into it temporarily via the USB. port.

    A new day, new information.

It looks like the culprit is probably Security Monthly Quality Roll up for Windows7 for x64-based Systems (KB4088875) . There are now reports appearing on the internet about servers being badly affected by this although I've not found any direct references to standalone Windows 7 machines having issues.

Notably, this morning when I checked for updates again, KB4088875 has mysteriously disappeared from the list and it certainly didn't get installed, so it looks like MS have pulled it.

I need to re-clone one of my backup drives and then I may be brave enough to see whether the remaining updates install without paralysing my PC.

To repeat an earlier Thread: there is absolutely no Win8 or Win10 upgrade feature within KB2952664. But it's your choice. It's been installed in my O/S now for months without problems.
Remember you posting that last month after update Tuesday. My question is/was: -

I didn't install it and, as far as I can tell, my machine is running smoothly. What would I be seeing with performance, security risk or anything else that you don't. Genuine question, not an attack on what you are saying.

... and so, with MS having apparently pulled KB4088875 from the Updates waiting list, I ran Windows Update again this morning and it all went perfectly. I wonder how many people are still scratching their heads over a dead computer wondering what on earth went wrong!

Still, it keeps the computer repair shops in business I suppose.

likewise, mine didn't install the AMD-specific one (ending 1290), which is good as I have an intel machine :D

How many keyboards do you have with a micro USB plug or/adapter?

And to hand when the OS decides to kill itself again.

Must take them a whole 3 seconds to check the free spaee available before downloading and installing an update, or the battery level.

Who would start a large update with less than 10% battery life left and display do not turn off the device?
