Ypres is worth a go if you like history. It is a nice looking town, and they do the last post at meningate every night at 8 (i think ?) and it is very moving (slightly less moving for me as my two eldest (8 & 9)were arguing in hushed whispers as they were playing the last post "she pulled my cagoule" was the essence of the argument. I managed to hiss "shush" at them but they had forced their way to the front of the crowd, so full parental control was not in operation). Also Bellewearde, the theme park is nearby, sorry if that sounds irreverant, but it is, and it is a reasonable theme park as things go.

We walked there (2-3 miles) with the argumentative twosome, but glad we did as there were lots of war memorials on the way. Makes you think.
