Parking ticket

Hi newie here. On saturday 10th parked in council car which was not far off being full. Parks car,buy ticket for 3hrs. When i get back to car there is isnt sufficent space drivers side door to display ticket so i decide to do it from passenger side which also is a tight squeeze. It doesnt help its pouring with rain,windy and struggling to
enough arm in to display it is near impossible. I manage to get ticket on dash shut door and off i go. I return to car to see fine only to then see the parking ticket face down.
Is it worth contesting due to other drivers parking or just pay it??
