I can't send or receive picture messages on my Samsung phone. I have been trying all afternoon to send some pic of my grandson to my sister. Any help much appreciated. I'm not very techie minded. :)

How are you trying to send them - SMS/MMS, or using a messenger service like WhatsApp or Kik or similar ?

If they're text messages, then are you out of credit / do you have a cost cap ? Some ( most ?? ) providers will charge for picture messages, they're not included in your monthly allowance.

If you're using a messenger app, then have you got either Wi-Fi or mobile data switched on / available ?

Thanks for your reply. I have made sure there's money on my phone, and wi-fi and mobile data are on. I'm using SMS/MMS.
I don't have any trouble with whatsapp but unfortunately my friends and family don't use whatsapp.
I can't open a picture if I receive a picture text. I can receive and send text message OK.

It may not be your phones fault. Have you checked that you have the correct settings for your carrier?
Or theirs could also not be set up for MMS.
Get them to download the Whatsapp or Viber app to make sending pics easier and cheaper.

  • MMS is the worst implementation of a messaging technology I've ever seen, that seemingly doesn't handle cross-network messaging at all well. And then in addition you get charged a premium when attempting to use it. Avoid.

OP, you would be best using something like WhatsApp, or if you prefer something more technically secure, Telegram (although a lot lower adoption means most of your friends/family won't be using it). Alternatively, email the photo, or - if you're on Android for example, save it to your Google Photos and share it from there (and SMS the link to the picture).

Also MMS do not come out of your message allowance. They can cost up to 60p/80p a message depending on which network you're on.

Must better to use Whatsapp or similar, as long s you have wifi or data it's free.

Give your phone company a call and ask them to send you the MMS settings, then you'll at least be able to receive them in future. I agree with others that you're better-off finding a free way to send the photo - email?

I set up Whatsapp for the lady next door last week. She's 84 and had it working within ten minutes, so it's not that hard... having said that, I don't think her son likes me any more !!!
