Most people don't know that new houses are not covered under the Sale of Goods Act 1994 - you have more consumer rights buying a loaf of bread!
It's reckoned that over a third of new build houses have between 100 and 200 defects.

Here are a couple of companies I'm considering using. They look pretty good, cost a few hundred squids, but probably worth it:

Or have a look at http://www.snagging.org.uk/

I posted a request on the same thing and someone advised me to go to www.snagging.org

Here's my thread, but do a search on snagging - there's a few of them recently.

You can download their snagging list and it's really good. Small fee, where the professional snags cost hundreds.
If it was easy, everyone would do it!

DONT GET A FIRM IN WHEN YOU CAN DIY

is this on a new house you should be covered by the NHBC ?but it not worth the paper its written on
or is it through a housing trust?

if so most firmes i have worked for have a finishing forman who do the snagging before you move in
    however they always miss something

so please look around the windows and patio door as this is nearly always missed with mastic look for unjointed brickwork joints usally under window sills and around the pourch

stand back and make sure all tiles are seated correctly

look to make sure the guttering is all ok best to wait for next rainy day so give it till monday lol

next up is under the stairs never painted or jointed right so grab a tourch and have a good look around

look around the skirting make sure thats all ok

up the stairs look for cracks in plaster near stairs as this always cracks

look for missed paint and cracks in landing area and loft hatch

check all doors make sure they all close ok and are not scratched or warped through being out the rain uncovered

its just like buying a new car but bigger just take your time with a pen and pad spend a few hours looking at it and when your happy hand it in to the site agent or whoever you are dealing with

hope it saves you a few quid in the long run
