Replacing Ideal boiler expansion tank diaphragm?

Hi plumbers, boiler and heating engineers :)

I've been quoted £230 to replace an Ideal i-Mini 30 boiler expansion tank diaphragm. The boiler was installed new in summer 2015. Is this reasonable? It seems a lot considering the cost of the whole boiler was less than £600 new.

Thanks in advance

  • Yeah that!!!8217;s fair. With diagnostics, part and fitting, my price would probably be about the same.

I'd check out Warm.co.uk if I were you, they're really good at finding a local engineer that can give you a quote for any boiler problems you're having.

1st, you do not replace the expansion diaphragm because you can not.
2nd, I doubt the expansion vessel needs replacing it probably just needs re pressurising

What problems are you having ?

Apparently system keeps depressurising due to this diaphragm rupture and tenant has to keep repressurising. Unfortunately I'm not there so have just appointed this guy as tenants getting fed up of repressurising (according to estate agent).

    See my point 2 above,
Have they checked there is not a leak on the heating system or tied a bag around the prv pipe that goes outside to make sure that this is not letting by ?
