1 other question, How does Quidco work? Am I correct in thinking that you do not actually get a discount but earn cashback? And how do you cash this in?

    Quidco
-You register with username and password.
-You can search quidco for the seller you are interested in and the listing will show you what cash back you would get.
-To earn cash back you must sign in and enter the sellers site via quidco, and purchase what you want in the normal way.
-It can take a few weeks for the money to reach your account but once it does you can set up to receive your cash back by BACS.

On the original question, if you are the cautious type try www.johnlewis.com all lcd tvs include free 5 year warantee and delivery.
e.g Philips 37PFL5522 £649 less £10 with code extraguests less £32.45 cash back on quidco = £606.55 delivered with 5 year warantee. Currys equivalent list price £699 1 year cover.

don't bother with a deal with 5 years warranty, as you get 5 years warranty by law anyway with the 'sales of goods act' with most electrical items!

You dont get a 5 year warranty by law
  • Right, thanks for help everyone:T

I have taken in all that everyone has said and have now settled on the Samsung LE37M87BDX mainly due to it being full hd(1920 x 1080p) and with a contrast ratio of 8000:1 with fantastic black levels.

I have mailed John Lewis, as the 5yr warranty is excellent, to see if they will price match as I have found it elsewhere for £699.45 and if they can I'll see if I can get a 1 off discount code for use online so I can go through quidco and get even more of a discount:cool:

And there is a John Lewis store near me so I can collect (if it's in stock) to save delivery costs:D

I think John Lewis will only price match high shop deals, if you search there is a thread specialising in advice on JL price matching. Also all TV's from JL have free delivery, and the service is good.
  • whenever i ask anyone on the net where to get electronic products from am always told http://www.pixmania.com is the best place to go, but they dont seem that cheap.

Am looking to get a HD tv for family room, any advice?

If only this were true! You wouldn't get salesmen trying to push overpriced 5 year warrantees on electricals.

No, it isn't true. The act does not cover you for any definite period. The act has been interpreted to say that goods should last a reasonable amount of time. If you pay £500 for a new TV and it has a years warrantly, then at the 13th month it goes duff, then effectively the law says that televisions should reasonably last longer than 13 months and therefore you would have good cause for complaint. It is a question of reasonableness and this is the test that the courts would apply.
