multi-rate boost meter
I've just moved to a new property, and only have electricity, which is supplied by Spark Energy, but its very expensive, currently pay on receipt of bill, but even DD is expensive.
I tried to move to Co-Op energy, but got a letter today saying I can't switch because I have a multi rate 'boost' meter and they don't support these
What is this?
Will some of the bigger suppliers support it?

You may have a complex meter or an E10 meter or an E7 meter.
How many read-outs does your meter have? Two or Three?
It may also be that you have a two rate meter which your current supplier is combining the usage totals. Not all suppliers can do this.
What type of tariff are you on at the moment?
What kind of heating set-up do you have? Instant panel heaters? Or large storage heaters with input and output controls.0 -
The meter has 4 read outs (but one hasn't changed since I moved in).
My bill doesn't mention E7 or 10, (but has different rates). In fact, to me the bill makes no sense, especially having 64days standing charge for a months bill.
Oh, and I've got storage heaters (which haven't been used since I moved in)

When you say four readouts - do you mean like this?

or something more similar to this?
Or is it digital, and you have to go through menus?
Does your bill mention, heatwise, E10 or E7 anywhere?0 -
no, its a digital meter, where I press a button to cycle through each reading. I have rate 1 (element 1), rate 3 (element 2) which has not changed, rate 4, rate 50

What part of the country are you in? It could be a heatwise or similar meter - in which case they are very specialist and if not on the correct type of tariff will be expensive. Only a few suppliers can support them properly.
Do you have two MPAN numbers on your bill?
You need to do some serious investigation into what set up you have and whether it is on an appropriate tariff to enable you to sort this out. Sadly very few customer services employees at energy companies have the first clue about these meters and there is very little support available so it can feel pretty overwhelming! Lots of help on here though!0 -
And a similar thing in Scotland is called Total control or THTC0

I too have a multi-rate "Boost" meter and have just been declined by Co-op energy. Which other energy suppliers can cope with these meters?0
