I'm sorry to dash your hopes, but this practice will continue for as long as suppliers keep changing their tariff offers.
There is no deliberate policy to send out unavailable offers; the offer was available on the day the letter was printed. But it's a fast moving world out there, and as has been confirmed to you, is unfortunately no longer available.
If you see an offer you like, you have to act quickly. You can apply to switch tariffs up to 49 days before the contract end and not incur early exit fees (if there were any applicable to your tariff)
ETA:
Out of interest, which tariff were you offered?
E.ON Go Online 1 Year v10?
This was withdrawn to new applicants 28/03/2018
But I've just checked for my supply region, and its replaced by v11 which is about 0.02p/kwh more
This, for an average dual fuel user, would mean an increase of about £2.50 pa.
But there are alternative suppliers and tariffs available that could save >£200 pa
Hmm...
Well, in my region, E.ON’s “Go Online 1 Year v11” is massively cheaper than its former “v10”.
Electricity kWh price is down from 14.333 pence in v10 to 12.978 pence in v11.
Gas kWh price is down from 3.335 pence in v10 to 2.586 pence in v11
Standing charges are unchanged but multiply that reduction by many thousand kWhs.
For our household’s consumption this comes out at a saving in v11 of no less than £280 per annum, compared to v10.
Indeed, in the comparison charts it’s down there with the minnows, way cheaper than any offering from the rest of the Big Six and with no obligation to have SMETS1 "smart" (dumb if you change suppliers subsequently) meters installed to qualify for it.
It’s also £100 a year cheaper than Octopus Energy, which a certain person keeps recommending on here.
So. round here, it’s most certainly one to seize while it’s still on offer.
All of which shows how greatly region and personal consumption affect what’s competitive for some people and not for others.
I do agree, nonetheless, with taxed&confused’s complaint that’s it’s disgraceful for an energy company to mail someone an offer that they know will expire before the letter containing it can arrive by Royal Mail. :mad:0 -

Hhm, and there was me thinking that v11 was an improvement. Still not as cheap as those prices.
Elec kWh down from 14.763p v10 to 13.283p v11
Gas kWh down from 3.384p v10 to 2.612p v11
I'm currently on Saver Fixed v13 which is 12.747p (Elec) and 2.944p (Gas).
If Elec had been nearer to your price Sosumi I'd have changed tariffs again probably post dated by 52 days but I'm in two minds as it works out £15 more expensive a year than v13 which I've still got 7 months to go on v13. Question is whether a better tariff is going to appear before October. Go Online v11 is the cheapest tariff by some way since Saver Fixed v13 which I posted dated a switch to in Sept 2017. taxed&confused wrote: »I just received official notification via the snail mail that my current fixed price tariff is due to end in May. The letter contained an offer of a new 1 year deal. The letter was dated 22 March, received 31 March. Immediately went on line to take up the offer to find it unavailable. Also rang to make sure and they confirmed that the offer I was sent is no longer available. They did the same last year. I have complained to E.ON and questioned if this is deliberate policy to send out unavailable offers. I hope this practice is properly addressed and does not continue.
Hello taxed&confused and not sure why you didn't receive your letter so long after it was written.
Tariffs offered on renewals are available at the time the letters are written. We review our products all the time and often release/withdraw them relatively quickly. As above, the best way to keep an eye on what's available is through our website or the independent price comparison sites. You can switch from one of our products to another at any time without picking up an exit fee. You can also forward switch to another of our tariffs by up to 52 days in advance.
As well as writing to customers, we also put information about tariffs on bills, statements and annual summaries. The website, though, is the best place to start particularly with specific online tariffs.
Sorry you missed out on the tariff in the letter taxed&confused.
