Education Maintenance Allowance and savings/income

I am thinking of applying for Education Support Allowance for my son who turns 16 shortly.
My own position is that I am unemployed through ill health, so we qualify on household income grounds. However I am recently widowed and due a life assurance payout that will take my savings over the £16K limit normally applied to means tested benefits.
I'm not sure if the limit applies to EMA. What I've seen on the web so far doesn't specifically mention savings - but can anyone give me a definitive answer?
Thanks!

It is not you that would be applying, it is your son so I don't believe your savings are considered

It is only the interest of any savings that is taken into account with your household income.0 -
