Connection dropping out

I upgraded to fibre broadband early December, no problems all going well, until this last week, or since the beast from the east and storm emma, now I lose connection several times a day, working on wi-fi as router in my bungalow bedroom, main phone socket, or the little "fan" icon showing wi-fi strength drops to only half, is it my laptop or could the problems be with my provider.
Just done a sped test as fan dropped to half again, ping 32ms d/load 26.65 mbps, upload 9.46 I know not bad speeds it`s the losing connection I find annoying.

Do I need it or just want it.

Connection dropping sounds like phone line problems, is your router plugged in to the phone master socket or is it on an extension ?4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Sounds like the WIFI is dropping not the main connection.
Change the channel on the router and also test it wired only.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks both, the router is plugged into the master socket, I will try changing the channel next time it drops out, to have it wired I have to run the router from one of the other line connections, if it persists I will go down that route.Do I need it or just want it.0

( to have it wired I have to run the router from one of the other line connections, if it persists I will go down that route.)
Note if that's a poor connection then its your internal wiring .0 -

No, by testing the wired connection they mean temporarily connect your laptop to the router with a network cable and see if it still works. You're then bypassing wifi so you can see if it is a connection issue or a wireless network issue. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It doesn't sound like you are losing connection, simply getting poor performance.
Can you explain why or what you mean by losing connection. On Windows, if you lose connection on WiFi you'll get a red cross, if you have no Internet access but WiFi is OK you'll get a yellow triangle exclamation mark warning.

If it is just going a bit slow, well, it's going a bit slow, not dropping out.
The fan reducing in size suggests a poor WiFi connection. It could be that you are getting interference from some other WiFi. If there were any power cuts then perhaps the WiFi got restarted and chose a different channel which is having issues with neighbours or something else.0 -
Is your fibre connection from FTTC or direct cable to your bungalow? FTTC would mean that there is a BT copper cable to your house for the last connection.
I ask because I had something similar a few years ago with my initial FTTC connection. Called the ISP, had an Openreach engineer visit. It turned out to be moisture and corrosion in the cable, which was replaced from the pole to my house. After your experience with the weather, it jogged my memory: our problem began after severe rainstorms over 3 days.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Thanks all.
IanMSpencer, yes have had the red x, and the orange triangle.
No work was done on my property Robisere, no direct connection apparent, my telephone lines run under ground.
I mentioned the storms as problems seem to have started since, and a couple of years ago passed an openreach van with 2 workmen working on a "manhole" which they were pumping out as it was full to the top with water.Do I need it or just want it.0 -
UPDATE, Thanks all for your input, think I have solved it, forgot I had put router on the floor instead of on my bedside cabinet, annoying green flashing lights, put it back and all seems well.
I really thought it would have made no difference to performance, perhaps signal would not pass through my adjustable beds, with all the metal involved.Do I need it or just want it.0 -
Just an aside, but I have my router as high as I can get it: on top of a high bookcase. Works for me and for others I know, but one person has found it doesn't work.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
