Co-op phoned to do "account review"

Just took a call from someone on my mobile who said they were from cooperative bank saying they wanted to do an "account review". They've phoned a few times before since I had their numbers as missed calls.

I said I was going out and asked what it was about. They wanted to check they had the correct details.... So i replied, "the statemnts come to my house and you have my correct phone number so the details must be correct". He then said "ok, that's great" and hung up.

The number he phoned from was 0161 8332074

Has anyone else had these calls? Sounds like a scam to me. Why would they phone my mobile and not land line?

I know co-op are based in Manchester and Stockport which would have an 0161 dial code so perhaps it may been genuine. I know when I ring people I always go for ringing a mobile as more people answer them then landlines (not sure why lol)

Why don't you phone the coop bank and ask? If they say that they are then it will set your mind to rest

I wouldnt bother chasing it up, when they say "account review" what they actually mean is they want to sell you something that is absolutely no use to yourself but very profitable for them

Had one of these from Co-op bank, about Smile overdraft and credit card.
They are reducing credit limit on my CC, and withdrawing my overdraft as of November ! I don't know what I have done to upset them !!
As a result, I have closed the credit card and will be repaying the overdraft and closing the current account asap. Panic and hysteria is setting in all over !
