Spark & Scottish Power simultaneously?

So I have purchased my flat just over two weeks ago and I went kind of confused about who my supplier is and phones British Gas to maybe switch to them, they have said to me that my electricity is with Spark Energy. No matter where I looked I could not find my gas meters serial number.
I have live chatted Spark Energy to give them my meter reading and just to let them know i have now moved in but the chat failed cause she just stopped replying.
I have just thought I will wait for my first bill to go through to find out who my supplier is. Yesterday I got a bill through with Scottish Power for my gas bill. In fact, three bills totalling to about £400 altogether. Since it said that the bill has a dual fuel discount that let me know they supply both gas and electricity.
I phoned Scottish Power to let them know I moved in, I let them know my meter readings etc. They have let me know they will close that account with debt on it and set up a new account for me.
So I thought everything got sorted.
But
I got a bill through today from SPARK ENERGY, not for my name but for the tenant who last lived here totalling £1200. They must have not closed their account when they moved out in April 2017 (when the property went up for sale)because the bill was up to 1 March 2016.
So I have two bills. For Spark Energy and Scottish Power. Moreover, the letter states that in a power cut to contact local network operator Scottish Power...
I will obviously phone Spark when I can but I want to know if someone had a similar problem before.

Very odd not to have a serial number on a gas meter. They are all positioned under the reading at the bottom. The serial number should match the number on the bill. I have seen the odd gas meter where the serial has faded away but these have been outdoors open to the elements for years.
Past tenant could have used a substitute meter, one with no serial number. Spark can tell you what type of meter is supposed to be at the property , Imperial or Metric , together with the serial number and the make and model.
Its a good start to untangle this mess to at least establish the correct meters and readings.0 -
Take a photo of your meters with the reading visible, you might need it as proof if there are any disputes.0

Like, the bills that I have received include the serial number of the gas meter so I suppose that's not a problem. Well, unless I want to confirm I'm getting billed for the right meter. There is literally nothing on the meter, nothing that even resembles a serial number, and it's located underneath my kitchen sink. The electric meter had a very clear Scottish Power meter serial number sticker.0
