my computer is adequate for my needs but recently having been given some downloaded files (new episodes of series i love) i have trouble playing them on my computer.
The trouble is that either the sound and video are at different speeds or the picture simply freezes and then catches up a couple of seconds later either of which is a little annoying.
So i would like to know if buying a cheap but newer graphics card that i have would do the trick or is it about RAM or processor speed, any techs have any thoughts on this, help is always greatly appreciated.
Conmputer specs are as follows can give a more detailed response if necessary
> Processor : Intel Pentium 4 @ 2666 MHz
> Physical Memory : 768 MB (max possible 2GB)
> Video Card : Nvidia Corp GeForce4 MX 440SE with AGP 8X [NV18.3]

It's not a hardware issue. Your computer is more than up to it. It sounds like you may need to do a little housekeeping.
Firstly, install then run CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) to get rid of the old temp files and such.
Secondly, install then run Auslogics Disk Defragmenter (http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/index.php)
Also if you've got a whole load of icons in the taskbar near the clock when you start up your PC, these are all running programs which use memory and CPU resources. See what you actually need and disable the rest.0 -
also try the k-lite codec pack and bsplayer0

if its a download, then it might just be a bad quality download.
what is the extension ? avi, mp4, mpeg, wmv ?0 -
what type of files are they, hi def by any chance? If the file size is over 600 meg per ep I'm guessing it is .0
