Repair/titivating a drive

The drive is nearly 60 years old. It's mossy in places and muddy in others. There are also a few small patches where the top layer (Tarmac like with small stones embedded) has flaked off revealing the underlying layer (big stones bound together with tarmac type stuff). We want to have it cleaned and to fill in those patches.
We are being quoted for replacing the whole lot. Is it really not possible to patch an old drive?

Imagine trying to build a house on sand.
Waste of money.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I really really hoped it was patchable. That top layer is less than a centimetre in depth. But if it can't be done, it can't be done.0

You could get someone to throw on some tarmac and compress it down - a driveway *resurfacing* but it's something that will inevitably fail and you'll have to do it all again. At 60 years old, I'd pay to get it done properly.0

It is possible to patch repair tarmac - but not easy, and not as good as a new drive - plenty of good advice on website below, you may even be able to DIY it - at £8 a bag, you could give it a power wash and try a repair and see how it turns out, won't have lost much.
