Secondary Glazing Questions

hi,
I have 2 bedroom windows that face the street and it gets noisy from 6am. I currently have double glazed windows. The windows are 900x1500mm.
I am thinking of secondary glazing as a simple DIY option.
My questions are:
1. Polycarbonate vs Acrylic for the sheet
2. How thick should it be, 3mm is half the price of 5mm
3. The gap would be 115mm is that too much?
