Personal fuel card? (not business)

Could I please point out that for some people, a personal Fuel Card is essential?
My son lives in a care home and has a mobility vehicle. He spends around £50 per week on fuel. If I leave his debit card with the home, obviously he can use it for fuel and any other purchases he wants. The problem is, so can his care staff. All sorts of things happen.

Alternatively, we can hang on to it at home, and take him down, say £100, cash per week. £50 for fuel, £50 for other expenses. By the end of the week, the £100 cash may well have been spent and no fuel bought.

With a card, there would always be money for fuel, and we could then just hand over £50 per week in cash.

You'd do better to start a new thread, rather than digging up one that's 18 months old.

To your issue (which is slightly different from the OP's), I'd start by asking mobility if they can supply a fuel card linked to the vehicle?

For money management purposes, i would like to know if there is anyway to pre pay for fuel monthly or top up a card i can only use for fuel, but researching it only seems the way to do this is a fuel card and that is a business thing, i dont own a business im wanting it for personal use.

Is there anything i can use that will work?

What are you going to do when you've run out of money on it and need to put more fuel in? Put more fuel in, that's why its a daft idea.

You'd do better sorting out your personal finances where you're actually wasting money on crap and overpaying on stuff.
I'm really upset at the level of comments here.  The OP is in debt and looking for solutions: all they are getting here is berrated.

l.r.p.1992: I'd suggest you contact Stepchange if debt is a problem.  I was in horrendous debt and they were amazing with me.  I know the logic of a pre-pay: you fill it up on pay day and then know that what's left is yours to play with.  With Stepchange you get to do this AND sort out the debt.  I know Martin will have advocated them on here.  They are a charity, work ethically and importantly don't charge you for their service.  Check them out on here and then decide if it's right for you.  Failing that call them: they are lovely.
I can see some fuel cards do charge for the privilege of using them and can be open to individuals.  Personally though, I'd go with a pre-pay 'credit' card like Monese or one of the Mastercard generics - again, Martin has articles on this.
Finally: good luck.  Debt is nasty and the consumer society we live in makes us all prey to it.  Before preaching like the zealots, people would do better to reach out and help someone.
  • As I thought: in fact Martin and Stepchage have worked together as well:  https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan/#help  Go down to Step 3.

The OP was looking for solutions about 2 1/2 years ago and hasn't logged on since then so I strongly suspect that one way or another, their problem has been addressed.

You are "really upset" at comments on a two-year-old thread?
Do you actively look for things to upset you?
