Overcharged on flight supplement

Hi,
I booked a holiday to Egypt with the tour operator and we were charged a flight supplement of £50 ea. due to no availability on their usual flight.
They clearly state on the literature that if we book our own flight and join the tour at the airport or hotel they allow £300 discount.
The eTicket they have given for the BMI flight they booked shows it was booked on lastminute.com. I checked on lastminute on the same day and the same flight costs £315.60 (kept print-out) and it is £303.60 on expedia.
Is it unlawful for them to charge us £50 ea. extra when it is only £15.60 extra? Or because it is a package tour can they get away with it?
I will be e-mailing them to complain and ask them to provide proof of how much it cost them to book the flight.
Any help in approaching this matter would be most appreciated.
Cheers.

Sorry, what it 'cost' them is irrelevant. They can charge whatever they choose, package or not, if you agree to pay.
The £300 off for not using their flight is not the 'cost' of that flight - it's an arbitrary amount which may be more or less than the cost of the flight. There are also admin costs in making alternative arrangements.0
