Plumbing work advice

Options
Boiler is an Intergas Combi Compact HRE 36/30

Price for materials and labour to replace a pressure relief valve = £87 + vat (took about 1.5 hours)

Price for materials and labour to replace a "new hall sensor pressure switch" = £127 + vat (took about half an hour)

Does this seem fair?

This is the first time we didn't agree a price at the start of the job as it was a case of getting someone that could come that same day (although it actually took 3 visits in total!)

I am probably going to ask for a labour and materials breakdown but wondered if anyone in the know could advise what they expect these 2 items to cost.

The first visit would I guess include investigative time.

It's the second item which seems excessive to me!

Any help would be great.

You're not entitled to ask for one after the event. If you wanted such a breakdown the time to ask for that was beforehand.

3 visits = usually 3 x labour minimum charge. Costs don't look unreasonable to me. Plus I'd expect a bit of a premium for same day response.

    Thanks for your response.

Just to clarify on the 3 visits.... The job in hand was for him to investigate and fix the pressure problem and whilst he was here he may as well do a service which was overdue.

The "same day response" (first visit) he just did the service which he had given me a price for and we paid for on the day - £55 he said he'd need to order parts to fix the fault and would come back the following week.

The second visit was him returning (2-3 weeks later!) with the pressure valve which was replaced but he'd ordered the wrong sensor switch, hence the need to return.
This is the first charge I am querying (1.5 hrs to fix the pressure release valve only = the £87+vat)

The third visit (another 2-3 weeks later and after a no show from him when we'd arranged!) was him returning with the correct sensor switch to replace
This is the second charge I am querying and the one I feel is most unreasonable (0.5 hrs to fix the sensor only = the £127 +vat)

So really the £214 + vat which I'm querying only includes 2 labour hours. Does this still seem fair and is anyone able to confirm what these 2 parts should cost for my type of boiler? If I knew that it would put my mind at ease.

On what basis do you think its unreasonable?
From a quick look your pressure valve is priced between £20-£30, include a mark up for the time/fuel take to get it is would say you £87 is not unreasonable.
The pressure sensor loos like its roughly the same price as the pressure valve.
Dont know how your tradesman as calculated but i would say the £214 + vat in total is not unreasonable. Again taking into account the time taken to order, pick up the parts remember this takes time too it not just the time in you house that will be billed for and including an inday call out.
